Edmund T. Fitzgerald, Jr. was born in 1924, in Taunton, Massachusetts. He was the son of Edmund Thomas Fitzgerald and Ella L Gregg Fitzgerald.

Edmund went into service in 1943. He served in the 749th Bomber Squadron, 457th Bomber Group, as a Sergeant and Ball Turret Gunner on the B-17G #43-38812 during World War II. He was Killed in Action on December 23, 1944, when his airplane crashed at Great Rollright in England. They were on a flight from RAF Portreath in Cornwall to their home base at RAF Glatton, near Peterborough, when their aircraft hit trees and crashed 800 yards from Great Rollright village hall.

Sgt Fitzgerald is now buried in the Saint Francis Old Cemetery, Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts, USA.
