George Henry Bruer, aged 22, was born on July 13, 1922, in Florida. He was the son of Henry and Rosalie Bruer of St Johns, Florida, and husband of Ann Bruer. He had enlisted into the Army Air Force in December 1941.
George served in the 749th Bomber Squadron, 457th Bomber Group, as a Technical Sergeant and Engineer/Gunner on the B-17G #43-38812 during World War II. He was Killed in Action on December 23, 1944, when his airplane crashed at Great Rollright in England. They were on a flight from RAF Portreath in Cornwall to their home base at RAF Glatton, near Peterborough, when their aircraft hit trees and crashed 800 yards from Great Rollright village hall.
Originally buried in Cambridge American Cemetery, his body was repatriated and re-interred in St. Augustine National Cemetery, Florida, in October 1948.
