Walter Blane Graves was born on May 7, 1920, in Sevier County, Tennessee. He was the son of Blane William Graves and Pearl Jane Reagan Graves. He enlisted into the Army Air Force in September 1942.
Walter served in the 749th Bomber Squadron, 457th Bomber Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot on the B-17G #43-38812 during World War II. He was Killed in Action on December 23, 1944, when his airplane crashed at Great Rollright in England. They were on a flight from RAF Portreath in Cornwall to their home base at RAF Glatton, near Peterborough, when their aircraft hit trees and crashed 800 yards from Great Rollright village hall.
2Lt Graves is now buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
