Comments:

Francis Leo “Frank/Bud” Creegan, Jr. was born on April 13, 1922, in Henryetta, Oklahoma. He was the son of Francis Leo Creegan and Ellen J. Devine Creegan.

Francis Leo, Jr. was the photographer assigned to Pilot Hutchison and the crew's final mission during the Big Week (part of a united effort between the US and England to bomb the dickens out of the German Air Force to help clear the way for the D-Day invasion). This was their 25th and final mission, and they would be going back to the US.

Then unexpectedly, their plane collided over Reedham, England, with B17 #42-37963 just minutes from the safety of base due to the engine failure on the other bomber flown by Lt Warren Pease. Both plane wreckages were found 800 yards apart, and 21 airmen died.

SSgt Creegan is now buried in the El Reno Cemetery, El Reno, Canadian County, Oklahoma, USA.
