James W. Williams was born on November 8, 1911. He served in the 310th Troop Carrier Squadron, 315th Troop Carrier Group, as a Technical Sergeant during World War II. One of our crew chiefs, TSgt Williams, was killed in action in the Rhine crossing operation. TSgt Williams was in Lt. Hurst’s plane on a mission, and he was instantly killed when a shell hit him in the head. His body was brought back in the plane and was buried with full military honors at the Cambridge American Military Cemetery. His final resting place is now in the Fairview Cemetery, Cheney, Sedgwick County, Kansas, USA.
