Oren H. Kelley entered military service in Iowa. He served in the 43rd Troop Carrier Squadron, 315th Troop Carrier Group, as a Sergeant during World War II. He was killed in the crash of his C47 42-23479 on September 17, 1943, while on a training mission during a joint exercise with the RAF. Sgt Kelley is now buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom. His name is listed on the monument in RAF Spanhoe, Laxton, England, but his surname is spelled, Kelly.
