Charles S. Johnson was born on July 28, 1920. He served in the 309th Troop Carrier Squadron, 315th Troop Carrier Group, as a Flight Officer during World War II. He was killed in a mid-air collision of the Douglas C-47A-10-DK Skytrain 42-108873 and C-47A 43-15341 on July 8, 1944, during mass paratroop exercise and crashed near Tinwell, England. A total of 8 crew and 26 paratroopers in both aircraft died.
F/O Johnson is now buried in the Oak Hill Burial Park, Lakeland, Polk County, Florida, USA.
