Edwin DeLoss Best was born on February 24, 1944, in Belgium. He served in the 66th Regiment, 2nd Armored Division, as a First Lieutenant during World War II. He died on September 18, 1944, and is now buried in the Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery, Santa Paula, Ventura County, California, USA. 1Lt Best was killed in battle during the Canal Drive in September 1944, the liberation of Belgian Limburg. He also has a cenotaph located in Cherry Fork Cemetery, Ohio.
