Earl Lee Rainbow was born on May 25, 1921, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was the son of Earl D. Rainbow and Maude Viola Noble Rainbow.

Earl served in Company B, 38th Armored Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Division as a Second Lieutenant (Military Occupation Specialty 1560) during World War II. He was Killed in Action on November 2, 1944, in the vicinity of Ospel, Netherlands, and is now buried in the Sunny Lane Cemetery, Del City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, USA.
