Marvin Halldoor Hjalmarson was born on September 11, 1916, in Pembina County, North Dakota. He was the son of Bjorn H Halldorsson Hjalmarson and Gudny 'Thorbjorg' Thorvaldson Hjalmarson.

2Lt Hjalmarson (Military Occupation Specialty 1331) served in Company A, 33rd Armored Engineer Battalion during World War II. He was Killed in Action on November 6, 1944, along a canal south of Ospel and Horik, Netherlands. He is now buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, USA.
