John J. Gonas, Jr. was born on December 20, 1911, in Ohio. He enlisted in the Army on April 1, 1942, in Cleveland.

Pvt Gonas was assigned as Rifleman (Military Occupation Specialty 745) in Company C, 38th Armored Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Division during World War II. He died in the vicinity of Winnerstraat, Holland, on November 1, 1944, at the age of 32. He is now buried in the Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, Lorain County, Ohio, USA.
