Clifford Miles Armstrong, Sr., was born on 24 March 1924 in Asheville, North Carolina. He was the son of Lonnie A. Armstrong and Lora Myrtle Baker Armstrong. He was married to Margaret Hines Osweiler.

Clifford served in Company C, 38th Armored Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Division, as a Private First Class and Rifleman (Military Occupation Specialty 745) during World War II. He was wounded in action on 3 November 1944 near Nederweert in the Netherlands and soon died at the 48th Field Hospital in France. Reports vary whether he died on November 3 or 4 in 1944. It was the same day that his son Clifford was born back home in Florida.

Pfc Armstrong is now buried in the Oakland Cemetery, Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, USA.
