Robert Oscar Davis was born on 3 July 1915 in Canehill, Washington County, Arkansas. He was the son of Clinton Walker Davis.
Robert served in the 336th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant in World War II. He was Killed in Action on 17 April 1945 when his aircraft (P-51 Mustang #44-14387 'Tar Heel' 'Lois III') was struck by flak while strafing Pilsen Airdrome. Losing glycol, he bailed out between Eger and Marienbad, Germany, after the plane went into an uncontrollable starboard dive. He was seen to land safely and run towards nearby wooded hills. He died later that day, but the cause was unknown.
1Lt Davis is now buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint-Avold, France.
