LeRoy Alfred Carpenter, Jr. was born on 8 July 1918 in Austin, Travis County, Texas. He was the son of LeRoy Alfred Carpenter and Bessie Lee Dixon Carpenter.

LeRoy Alfred, Jr. served in the 336th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a Captain during World War II. He was Killed in Action on 16 April 1945 when his aircraft (P-51 Mustang #44-63831) was struck by flak while strafing Praha-Kbely airdrome in Czechoslovakia. Last heard from him is when he was on the south of the airdrome at 2700’ steering 270°, oil pressure at zero.

Cpt Carpenter is now buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint-Avold, France.
