Stephen Ruben “Play Boy” Boren was born on 19 September 1923 in Wisconsin. He was the son of John William Boren and Esther V Johnson Boren.
Stephen served in the 335th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and pilot of the P-51 Mustang type D-5-NA #44-13997 WD*W during World War II. On 13 August 1944, he took off from Station 356 in Debden, England, on a mission to bomb the railway tracks in Troësnes, France, and strafe when there is an opportunity. While strafing, three trucks have spotted in a wooded area. He went so low that his section leader lost sight of his aircraft. When it pulled up back into view, half of the right-wing was missing. The section leader reported that the aircraft “did two snap rolls to the left and hit the ground on its back at approximately 275 mph.” His plane crashed between Vauciennes and Largny-sur-Automne - 6 km W from Villers-Cotterets, France.
2Lt Boren is now buried in the Forest Home Cemetery, Marinette, Marinette County, Wisconsin, USA.
