Ralph Gerald Boyce was born on December 29, 1920, in Swampscott, Massachusetts. He was the son of Thomas Joseph Boyce and Mary Helen Elizabeth Gilmore Boyce.
Ralph served in the 335th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. He was piloting the P-51 Mustang #43-6863 at the time of his death. 2Lt Boyce was killed in a flight accident on May 6, 1944. He took off on a practice mission and disappeared from the formation. He crashed at Great Yeldham, England, while attempting to land at Ridgewell. The report stated he “came out of a cloud and went straight in. He landed in an open field.”
2Lt Boyce is now buried in the Swampscott Cemetery, Swampscott, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA.
