Frank T. Sibbett was born on October 31, 1921, in Alameda, Kern County, California. He was the son of George E Sibbett and Mary H Sibbett. He had three brothers and one sister: Ewing, Edward, Morgan, and Elizabeth.

2Lt Frank T. Sibbert joined the 335th Fighter Squadron on May 2, 1944, and flew his first combat mission on May 11, 1944. The mission of June 21, 1944, was his 15th combat mission flown and was part of the fighter escort for the shuttle mission Frantic II. Sibbert was flying Maj. James R Happel's formerly assigned aircraft, WD-X, 43-6784 which was a P-51B- 5NA.

2Lt Sibbett was with element leader engaged enemy aircraft over Poland on the outward leg of the shuttle. Though his Mustang was seen to sustain hits on its wing, he was last seen heading off in pursuit of German fighters.

An eyewitness on the ground saw Sibbett bail out of his stricken fighter and land before his chute could fully deploy, the impact breaking his leg. His aircraft crashed at Krzewicy airport near Miedzyrzeca Podlasie. Though he was partially concealed in a wheat field, he was struck by fire from German soldiers. He died of his wounds at a Hungarian Army hospital near Miedzyrzecz that day.

2Lt Sibbett is now buried in the cemetery in Międzyrzec Podlaski, Poland.
