Robert H. Richards was born on January 12, 1922, in Bronx, New York. He served in the 336th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant during World War II.
On March 4, 1944, piloting the P-51B-7-NA #43-6786 VF-G, he aborted the mission with engine trouble. He attempted to land the plane, wheels-up, in a plowed field 5 miles west of Station 153 at Framlingham, but his aircraft exploded upon impact.
1Lt Richards is now buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
