Robert John Cooper was born on May 18, 1922. He served in the 335th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant during World War II.
On August 18, 1944, he was flying the P-51B #42-106855 WD*Z that took off from Debden on a skip-bombing operation to the Paris area. After strafing, his flight was attacked by about fifty ME109s. He crashed at about 2000hrs at Aux Quarte Chemins de Jousin at Lilly-Saint-George, ten miles west of Creil, France.
2Lt Cooper is now buried in the Epinal American Cemetery, Dinozé, France.
