Cecil Iden Rhodes was born on September 29, 1919. He entered the military on December 9, 1941, at Fort Thomas Newport, Kentucky. He trained at Cal-Aero Flight Academy Ontario, California, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in June 1942. He flew with the 93rd Fighter Squadron 81st Fighter Group at Goxhill, Lincolnshire, England, as a pilot of Bell aircraft P-39[P-400] Airacobra BX195. He died from an airplane crash on November 2, 1942, near Settle, England caused by engine failure. He directed his aircraft away from the town and baled out too late for the chute to fully open so he was killed instantly. He is now buried in the IOOF Cemetery, Paoli, Orange County, Indiana, USA.
