Robert Samuel Mulhauser was born on October 1, 1918, in Wisconsin. He was the son of Maj. Samuel Alfred Mulhauser, and of Helen Baerd Mulhauser, of Huntington Woods, Michigan. He served in the 76 (R.A.F.) Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force as a Pilot Officer and Wireless Operator/Air Gunner of an aircraft during World War II. Pilot Officer Mulhauser was a member of P/O Philp's crew at the time of his death.

Their plane, Handley Page Halifax W1104, MP "F", was presumably shot down by enemy aircraft and went into the North Sea, South East of Vlieland Island (Holland), on 4 June 1942, during a raid on (Hansestadt) Bremen, North West Germany. The Operations Record Book for the Squadron notes that on 3 June 1942 "Operations were ordered for an attack on Bremen, Ten crews were detailed, and all took off. One aircraft returned early and two are reported missing (Captains P/O Philp and F/S Stell). The squadron records note that "this aircraft was airborne at Middleton St George at 2314 hours since when nothing further has been heard.

P/O Mulhauser was first buried on 3 July 1942 in the Lutheran Cemetery, Borkum, Germany. His remains were transferred later and he is now buried in the Sage War Cemetery, Germany.
