William F. Wells entered the military service in Indiana. He served in the 294th Engineer Combat Battalion as a Technician 5th Grade during World War II. He was Killed in Action on November 3, 1944 and is now buried in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium.

Wells (ASN: 35894536), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 294th Engineer Combat Battalion, in action against enemy forces on 3 November 1944. Technician Fifth Grade Wells' intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
