Philip P. Heelan was born on April 7, 1925 in North Tonawanda, Niagara County, New York. He was the son of Thomas Heelan. He served in the 379th Fighter Squadron, 362nd Fighter Group as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. He was killed on a bombing mission in Germany on March 21, 1945. 2LT Heelan is now buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint-Avold, France.
