Charles Howard Freeman entered the military service in Louisiana. He served in the 377th Fighter Squadron, 362nd Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. Charles took off from Station 412 in Headcorn, Kent (UK) on bombing and strafing mission to Pierres, France. His plane was hit by flak in the engine and crashed into a tree. 1LT Freeman lost consciousness in the shock (broken ribs, various wounds) and regained consciousness in a farm but later died of his wounds. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery, Montjoie Saint Martin, France.
