James Preston Harris was born in 1922. He served in the 377th Fighter Squadron, 362nd Fighter Group as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. On June 21, 1944, his plane took off from Station 412 at Headcorn , Kent, UK, on a low-level stafing mission to Mantes-la-Jolie, France. He was shot down during the pass by the light flak while he was strafing a railway track, 7km, north of Mantes. The plane crashed to the ground and his body was found mutilated, parachute unopened. He is now buried in the Milton-Freewater IOOF Cemetery, Milton-Freewater, Umatilla County, Oregon, USA.
