Ralph E. Phillips entered the military service in Ohio. He served in the 377th Fighter Squadron, 362nd Fighter Group as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. A pilot of a P-47, his plane took off from Station 412 in Headcorn, Kent and was killed on a dive-bombing mission to Villedieu-les-Poëles, west of Vire, France. He is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
