James Henry Stewart was the son of James Stewart and of Elizabeth Stewart (nee Mooney), nephew of Mrs. E. N. O'Brien (nee Mooney), of Mount Vernon, New York, U.S.A. He served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, 196 Squadron, as a Flying Officer and a Pilot on the Wellington X HZ478 during World War II. Together with a crew, their plane took off from Leconfield, England on July 3, 1943 but later was shot down by a night fighter (Hptm Wilhelm Herget 1) on July 4, 1943 and crashed in Belgium. His remains are now buried in the Gosselies Communal Cemetery in Belgium.
