Jose M. Caraballo Pietri was born on July 11, 1978 in Puerto Rico. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 84th Field Artillery Regiment, 170th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Baumholder, Germany. He died on April 10, 2011, at the age of 32, in Badghis province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. His current burial place is unknown.
