When Ernest Stanley Throne was born on March 17, 1915, in Toledo, Ohio, his father, Henry, was 32 and his mother, Alice, was 25. He married Mary Alice Wentz Throne in December 1941. They had one child during their marriage.

Ernest served in the 337th Bomber Squadron, 96th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator on the B17 #44-6137 "The Abortion Queen" aircraft during World War II. On January 29, 1945, while attempting assembly into a bomber stream scheduled to raid the marshalling railway yards at Bielefeld, Germany, his aircraft collided with that of Lt. Alex Phillipovich. Both aircraft exploded and crashed approximately 1/2 miles southeast of the airdrome. All 18 crew members aboard the 2 aircrafts were killed.

2LT Throne is now buried in the Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan, Williams County, Ohio, USA.
