Daniel E. Dustin was born on September 3, 1923 in Nebraska. He was the son of Tilford Soame Dustin and Minnie Pearl Cowperthwaite Dustin. He served in the 341st Bomb Squadron, 97th Bomb Group as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. Navigator of the B-17 #42-3147 "Homesick Angel", he was Killed in Action on November 16, 1943 when their plane was shot down during a bombing raid over Istres, France. The wreck of their B-17 was discovered when the lake was dried up in the 60's. 2LT Dustin is now buried in the Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, USA in a common grave with SSGT Atkins, 2LT Case, TSGT Garrity, and 1LT Packard. He also has a cenotaph located in Sheridan Cemetery, Auburn, Nemaha County, Nebraska.
