When Mark Amos Griffith was born on December 11, 1896, in Oklahoma, his father, John, was 19 and his mother, Martha, was 18. He had two brothers and one sister. He served in USS Utah as a Seaman 2nd Class, United States Navy, during World War I. S2 Griffith died of Spanish influenza on October 28, 1918, at the age of 21, in Ireland and was initially buried in the Old Church Cemetery, Cobh, Ireland. His final resting place is in the Prairie Hill Cemetery, Jackson County, Oklahoma, USA.
