Virgil T. Johnson served in the 381st Fighter Squadron as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. He was the pilot of the B-7 #43-6949, which on June 17, 1944, took off from station 413 in Staplehurst. His plane was shot down by an intense light flak and crashed in Tessy-sur-Vire, France. 2LT Johnson was killed in the crash. His current burial place is unknown.
