Lyle F. Reetzke entered the military service in Illinois. He served in the 380th Fighter Squadron, 363rd Fighter Group as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. Lyle was the pilot of the P-51 B-5 #43-6443 which took off from station 413 in Staplehurst, England on an armed reconnaissance mission towards Chartres, France. Due to an unknown circumstance, possibly shot down by flak, the plane crashed near Coulmer. 2LT Reetzke evacuated the plane by parachute at 1530h. His ultimate fate is unkown. 2LT Reetzke is buried now in the Brittany American Cemetery, Montjoie Saint Martin, France.
