Walter Sutherland Hopkins was born on November 28, 1919 in Nespelem, Washington. He was the son of Henry Ernest Hopkins and Kathleen B. Sutherland Hopkins. He served in the 23rd Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Division as a Private during World War II. PVT Hopkins was taken as a prisoner in the Battle of The Bulge and died on December 27, 1944. He was initially buried in the Gerolstein town cemetery in Germany. His final resting place is in the Luxembourg American Cemetery, Luxembourg.
