George S. Pappas was born in Toledo, Ohio. He volunteered in the Army on April 15, 1943 and trained at Camp Roberts, California and Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. He served in the 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division as a Private during World War II. He died on March 23, 1944 in Northern Ireland and was buried first in the Lisnabreeny Former American Military Cemetery in England. The cemetery closed in 1948 and his remains were exhumed and transferred. PVT Pappas is buried now in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
