James F. Syron, Jr. was born in 1921. He served in the 312th Ferrying Squadron, 27th Air Transport Group as a Corporal and Radio Operator on the B-24 #42-50762 "Flassie" aircraft during World War II. On July 6, 1944, their plane was being ferried to the mainland from Langford Lodge, Northern Ireland, and was flying south-east when it struck North Barrule while in the cloud. The aircraft crashed on an undulating slope and burned out. CPL Syron was killed in the crash. He was buried first in the Lisnabreeny Former American Military Cemetery in England. The cemetery closed in 1948 and his remains were exhumed and transferred. He is buried now in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, Westchester County, New York, USA.
