William Dean Combs was born on October 11, 1919, and was a native of West Virginia. He served in the 11th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division during World War II. He was sent from Ft. Custer to Iceland and served for 18 months and later was sent to Northern Ireland. He was stricken with acute appendicitis and died in Llandudno, Wales, on April 15, 1944. Sgt Combs was buried first in the Lisnabreeny Former American Military Cemetery in England. The cemetery closed in 1948 and his remains were exhumed and transferred. He is buried now in the Monks Cemetery, Bangor, Van Buren County, Michigan, USA.
