Justin Clark Hamblin was born on August 25, 1918 in Califronia, the son of Ren Gilbert and Lois (Malone) Hamblin. He was graduated from Hanford Union High School in 1937, and was employed in Hanford before going into the Armed Forces. He entered the service in October 1941, and trained at Keesler Field, Mississippi, Walla Walla, Washington, Tyndale Field, Florida, and Bangor, Maine. Justin served in the 401st Bomber Squadron, 91st Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Private during World War II. He was the Engineer on B-17F Flying Fortress #41-24451 that crashed in Mount Slieveanorra, near Cushendall, Northern Ireland while in transit to Great Britain due to bad weather. Eight of the ten on board were killed, including PVT Hamblin, while two survived.
