Robert Nye Allen, aged 24, was born on January 5, 1918. He was the son of Earl Vernon Allen and Ola Delphina Delong Allen. Robert served in the 401st Bombardment Group (H), as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. He was the Navigator on B-17F Flying Fortress #41-24451 that crashed in Mount Slieveanorra, near Cushendall, Northern Ireland, while in transit to Great Britain due to bad weather. Eight of the ten on board were killed, including 2LT Allen, while two survived.
