Mccall entered the military service in Mississippi and served in the 364th Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. 1LT McCall was Killed-in-Action aboard his P-51 'Kargers Dollie' #44-15026 aircraft near Paderborn, Germany, on January 10, 1945. He is buried now in the Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.

First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Frederick C. McCall (ASN: 0-743053), United States Army Air Forces, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving with the 364th Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group, in action against the enemy in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. The skillful and zealous manner in which he has sought out the enemy and destroyed him, his devotion to duty and courage under all conditions serve as an inspiration to his fellow flyers. His actions on all these occasions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Force of the United States.
