357th Fighter Group Roll of Honor
Daniel Lewis Finley was born on April 11, 1919, in Olean, New York, son of Daniel Kenneth Heck Finley and Lena Frances Jefferies Finley. He served in the 364th Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group as a 1st Lieutenant during World War II. On July 29, 1944, his aircraft P-51 #42-106843 crashed near Uefeln, Germany and was taken as a prisoner of war. He died while in captivity, either during internment at Stalag Luft 3 or later, possibly during the forced-march that started on January 29, 1945, as POWs were ordered to leave Stalag Luft 3. 1LT Finley died on April 14, 1945, at the age of 26 and is now buried in the Sherwood Burial Park, Salem, Salem City, Virginia, USA.
