Charles Donley Darragh was born on April 20, 1919 in Duluth, Minnesota. He served in the 722nd Bomber Squadron, 450th Bomber Group, Heavy as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He had served for five years and for his last 3 months was stationed at an air base on Italy. SSGT Darragh's plane was hit by German flak while bombing Friedrichshafen – made it to neutral Swiss ground but problems with its steering started a few miles ahead the Dubendorf airport. The rudder finally completely broke so they had to jump out of the plane. Tragically SSGT Darragh's parachute didn't open. He was temporarily buried in what was then the American Cemetery in Münsingen, Switzerland. His final resting place is in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, USA.
