Frank V. Horetski entered the military service in Michigan. He served in the 547th Bomber Squadron, 384th Bomber Group, Heavy as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. SSgt Horetski was the Ball Turret Gunner on B-17G 42-97237 "Royal Flush III" which took off from Grafton Underwood to attack Hollsriegelkreuth, about four miles SSW of Munich, Germany. They were attacked immediately after bombs away, knocking out the No 1 engine forcing the prop to be feathered. At 0957hrs the pilot informed the Wing Commander that he had four wounded aboard and at an altitude of 12,000ft headed for Switzerland. They landed at Dubendorf Airfield with No 3 and No 4 engines damaged by flak. SSgt Horetski was killed instantly during the fighter attack. He was temporarily buried in what was then the American Cemetery in Münsingen, Switzerland. His final resting place is in Epinal American Cemetery, Dinozé, France.
