Gordon R. Schenkelberger was born on June 4, 1919. He served in the 347th Squadron, 99th Bomb Group as a Left Waist Gunner on B-17 F-30-VE, Cantwell's crew during World War II. SSGT Schenkelberger was killed in action on October 1, 1943, when his plane was forced down by enemy action on the Switzerland frontier. He was temporarily buried He was temporarily buried in what was then the American Cemetery in M�nsingen, Switzerland. He is now buried in the Long Island National Cemetery, East Farmingdale, Suffolk County, New York, USA.
