Daniel Kent Raichlen was born on October 7, 1949. He was the son of Richard Adrian Raichlen and Kathryn Ann Gallagher Raichlen. He was a 1971 graduate of the University of Georgia and received his commission later that year. He served at bases in the US and Spain before being assigned to Spangdahlem in January 1981. CPT Raichlen an air systems officer with the 81st Tactical Fighter Squadron, died in a crash during a routine training flight in his Phantom F4. Also killed was the planes's pilot Lt. Col. Gerald R. Linn of Oregon.
