John Michael Wertz was born on June 5, 1943 at Wichita, Kansas. He was the son of Jack White Wertz and Catherine Virginia Gilbert Wertz. He served in the US Army Air Forces as a Major during the Vietnam War. He died on September 20, 1977 at the age of 34 in Spangdahlem and is now buried in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma, USA. Major Wertz was one of the American airmen who died in service while assigned at the Spangdahlem Air Force Base, Germany.
