Reynold Erichson was born on September 27, 1919 and was from Iowa. He was a Captain in the 120th Infantry, 30th Infantry Division during the Battle of Mortain, or the Falaise Pocket, and for 5 days served as the senior leader during the battle on Hill 314. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his actions. CITATION: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) Reynold C. Erichson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces from 6 to 12 August 1944. Captain Erichson's outstanding leadership, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 30th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
