Robert and Nello Berardi were US Soldiers born in the Republic of San Marino. (Roberto) Berardi was born on March 21, 1922 in Faetano, San Marino. After immigrating to the United States the Berardi family settled in Ohio. Robert attended Sandusky High School and then Bowling green University. During would War 2, he enlisted in served in the 407th Infantry Regiment, 102nd Infantry Division. On February 24, 1945, the 102nd Infantry Division participated in the Roer River crossings as part of Operation Grenade. SGT Robert Berardi fell while attaching near the German villages near Linnach and Glimbach. He was almost 23 years old. Robert is buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery with a memorial stone on the family plot in San Marino.
