Robert Blackman was born in Pennsylvania. He resided in Atlantic County, New Jersey prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on April 25, 1939, prior to the war, in Mountain Home, Tennessee. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Skilled compositor and/or typesetter and also as Divorced, with dependents. Robert served as a Private First Class in the 11th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 22, 1944, was initially buried at Villeneuve-sur-Auvers in France and is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery, Montjoie Saint Martin, France. Due to a family request, the state of Pennsylvania was added to his headstone instead of his state of residence New Jersey as was normally done.
