Comments:
Born on February 16, 1887 in California. Commanded the landing Task Force at the Lingayen Landings in Luzon in January 1945. United States Navy Admiral. During World War II he led the United States Navy taskforce that defeated a Japanese naval force at Surigao Strait on October 25, 1944 during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. It was the last time in history that the naval tactic of "crossing the T" was used in combat.
